June Tomkyns, hair designer from Kolkata shares her recipe to have healthy hair with Zola Marquis

How do you see this International platform offered by ICD-India?
It’s Fabulous! This will serve as an international platform for us where we can both share our thoughts and ideas. It offers us a golden opportunity for growth and stimulation

Some healthy hair tips.
Eat well. Nothing can contribute to great hair like a good nutritious diet can! Eating Nuts, dates, fruits fibre and using Flaxeed oil as a cooking medium are must do’s.

Give us some beauty tips for this summer.
Clean, glossy hair that demands attention by its sheer good health and looks is the sole requirement of every individual. Achieving it in summer, especially the hot Indian ones, is a task that requires an exacting stick to your guns routine.
As hot climes can leave the hair greasy, limp or on the other hand, if your hair has a tendency to curl, frizzy! Shampoo frequently if your hair is greasy but not too frequently as this can in fact dry out the ends of your hair and get the sebaceous glands working overtime. Thrice a week is max.
To condition your hair the natural way, try oiling it. Below is recipe I have used on my clients at the Salon. 3-4 leaves of aloe liquidized to a smooth paste-heat 200 gms of either almond or coconut oil in a pan and then add the liquidized pulp. Mix it thoroughly then strain and bottle this mixture.

Who is your Inspiration?
My inspiration is Chris Brocklebank of Devon

How do you see the market for natural products in terms of the overall personal care market in India?
The market for natural products in India has tremendous potential as Indians aesthetic viewpoint been nature influenced. In Ayurveda, we have a vast bank of beauty related material, only a small portion of which is being utilized!

What is the USP of your salon?
Our USP is that we update, update, update! We always try not to be trapped in style time wraps. We also give our clients personal attention and like to think of ourselves as a one-stop beauty shop that offers almost every service under the beauty sun!

How do you see the growth of spas in India V/S countries across the globe?
I see great potential for the spas in India as the concept of spas is by and large holistic and healing, catering both to the physical as well as the emotional aspects of aesthetics. Since India has always had similar approaches to aesthetics, it will be accepted and imbibed into the Salon procedures.

How do you see this international platform offered by ICD India?
I see ICD India as a starting point for talented Indian Hairdressers to gain access to the world of Hairdressing. It is also a great opportunity to share, learn and create.

Some healthy hair tips.

A well balanced diet with jars of water
Cleanliness of scalp and hair with regular shampooing and conditioning
Trim you hair in an interval of three-four weeks.

What are the trends in the consumer market and what are people looking for?
People are looking for trendy hair, which is easy to maintain and fashionable with color accents to compliment individual lifestyles.

Some beauty tips for this summer:
During summer, it is essential to keep skin well hydrated as there is a loss of surface moisture. It is very important to provide adequate protection against the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun by using a sunscreen regularly. Even by using water mist occasionally on the face during the day keeps the skin hydrated during the day. A good moisturizer would also help.

Your Inspiration?
Inspiration is an ongoing process with me. I feel I draw inspiration all they time from different from different walks of life and try to apply it to my work and it has helped me in becoming a better human being.

How do you see the market for natural products in terms of the overall personal care market in India?
India, which is known globally for its natural products, has a great potential for growth in its own consumer market. This is mainly because people today are aware of the ill effects of chemicals and are moving away from it to natural products.

Suggest some treatment for dead skin.
Skin exfoliation is the best technique to get rid of dead skin. One can use abrasives like apricot scrubs or enzymatic peels which act as biological scalpels removing dead skin. Another option would be acidic peels consisting alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA)

How do you see the growth of spas in India v/s countries across the globe?
Spas are the ultimate stress busters. With the growth rate in India in all sectors we see a boom in the wellness industry too. The awareness to the benefits of such treatments and the ability to spend freely has resulted in world class spa’s opening across India at power with their foreign counterparts.
